National golfers Isabella Ramdeen, Liam Bryden and Richard Camacho emerged champions at the UNIPET Club Golf Championships at the St Andrews Golf Club in Moka, Maraval, on the weekend of September 20-21.
Ramdeen took the Ladies A Class with 186. The teenager, who represented T&T at this year’s Caribbean Junior and Senior Golf Championships, returned a total of 186, hitting 91 on the first day and 95 on the second. Veteran Amy Chang Fong was second with 153 (77/76). Brenda Clarke took the Ladies A Class (Stableford), amassing 65 (35/27). Kitty Murphy claimed the runner-up spot on 151 (87/73).
Bryden topped the men’s A Class with 148. The multiple national team representative tallied 72 and 76 after the two rounds of play. Shane Castello (153-87/73) was second. Youngster Ethan Collier (145-70/75) took home the Net prize.
Bryden was pleased in recording his second triumph in the tournament in more than a decade, saying, “(I) was happy to win the A class division in the club championships. I have not won it since 2014, when I was 15. The win means a lot to me because I have been playing well the last couple years but (I) haven’t won a major tourney at my home course at St Andrew’s golf course in a very long time.”
The 2025 Latin American Championships participant told Guardian Media Sports that he has been focusing on how he assesses his play.
“I handled myself well during the weekend and was proud of myself for grinding through and keeping positive and not letting emotions get the best of me. Past couple months I’ve been working a lot on the mental side of golf and I think I’m making a lot of progress.”
Richard “Peco” Camacho secured the Seniors (55+) Division, registering 147. Camacho, who has been selected to represent T&T at the upcoming Caribbean Four Ball Championships in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from October 10-12, beat out former national football captain and coach Russel Latapy (149-77/72). Latapy took home the Net award.
Rushyant Sookram (B class), Learie Flores (C Class), Earl Brathwaite (D Class) and Bernard Mc Kay (Super Seniors-70+) were also winners.
