Char­lotte Ready joined Aal­isha Alex­is as the sec­ond of two qual­i­fiers from the Tri­als to make it on the T&T team for the Bil­lie Jean King Cup Tour­na­ment, which gets go­ing with a 12-na­tion Amer­i­c­as Zone Group III play-off from Au­gust 5-11 in T&T.

In the five-woman Tri­als at the Na­tion­al Rac­quet Cen­tre in Or­ange Grove, Tacarigua over the past three days, Ready got her cam­paign off with an al­most flaw­less 6-1, 6-1 tri­umph over Caris­sa Rudolpho on the open­ing day, Fri­day. But she fal­tered when the un­beat­en Alex­is stopped her in her tracks Sat­ur­day, con­fin­ing her to her first loss 6-3, 6-3.

Alex­is had since gone on to seal her place on the team with vic­to­ries over Rudolpho, and then Cameron Wong yes­ter­day.

Ready though, still had a dis­tance to go, as she faced the pair of Jae­da-Lee Daniel-Joseph and Wong, this year's Un­der-18 Catch Na­tion­al Ju­nior Ten­nis Cham­pi­onships win­ner, in her two oth­er match­es yes­ter­day.

Against Daniel-Joseph the sec­ond-seed­ed Ready pre­vailed in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 for her sec­ond win of the tour­na­ment, and lat­er yes­ter­day she came from a set down 5-7 against the top-ranked Wong to pre­vail 6-4, 10-1 on court five.

The win pre­vent­ed Wong, the on­ly oth­er play­er in with a chance of qual­i­fy­ing for the top two spots af­ter Rudolpho and Daniel-Joseph had sur­ren­dered too many match­es.

Wong sur­pris­ing­ly lost twice yes­ter­day, with Alex­is be­ing the oth­er play­er she went down to.

Al­so on the fi­nal day yes­ter­day, Rudolpho got her first win of the play-off by clob­ber­ing the fourth-seed­ed Daniel-Joseph 6-1, 6-0.

The re­sults placed Alex­is at the top of the stand­ing with eight points in four match­es, with Ready on six points in the same amount of games.

Both Alex­is and Ready will join Yolande Lea­cock and Jor­dane Dook­ie on the T&T team for the Au­gust 5-11 play-off, which will al­so fea­ture play­ers from An­tigua & Bar­bu­da, Aru­ba, Ba­hamas, Bar­ba­dos, Bermu­da, Cos­ta Ri­ca, El Sal­vador, Ja­maica, Pana­ma, St Lu­cia, and the Unit­ed States Vir­gin Is­lands.

The coun­tries are set to be di­vid­ed in­to three groups of four teams where on­ly the group win­ners will ad­vance to en­gage in a sim­i­lar round-robin play-off for the top two spots to qual­i­fy for Group II to be con­test­ed next year.
