Zenith Athletic Club's Kenai Reid and older sister Daija were crowned champions at the National Combined Events Champioships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain from June 7-8.
Kenai won the boys' Under-11 tetrathlon with a score of 1,993 points after completing in the 60m (8.81 seconds) and long jump (4.03m) on the first day and the cricket ball throw (41.87) and 800m (2 minutes and 46.23 seconds) the following day. Cayel Thomas of Mercury (1,862) was second followed by Zamael Woodroffe (1,717) in third.
Daija secured the girls' U-15 heptathlon with a tally of 3,815 points with Mercury's Ryanna Regis (3,247) and J'Lenn Roberts of IG Fastlane (3,224) in the minor places on the podium.
The Reids' triumphs were among five by their Zenith clubmates.
Joint top boys' athlete at this year's National Primary Schools Championships, Jeremiah Hector in the (Boys' U-13 pentathlon-3,134), D'Mya Williams (Girls' U-9 triathlon-888) and Kaila Agard (Girls' U-11 tetrathlon-1,460) were the others in Zenith colours to prevail.
Gloria Henry (Rss Phoenix) emerged champion in the girls' U-13 pentathlon with 2,846. Henry, who was the top girl at the National Primary Schools Championships, won four of the five disciplines taking the high jump (14.0), cricket ball throw (40.09), long jump (4.84) and 800m (2:41.37). Shania Baynes' (Kaizen Panthers) 2,225, earned her the silver medal and Burnley's Destiny Arnold's 2,206, bronze. Gloria's brother, Kerlon, was second in boys' U-15 heptathlon while her younger sister Chloe was also second in the girls' U-9 triathlon.
Kerlon gathered 4,417 and was runner-up to Jafari Edwards of Mercury (4,872). QRC's Kaiden Peres (4,062) was next to finish. Chloe's 804 earned her silver with Williams taking the gold and Jelina Wlliams (Zenith), 674, in third.
Chelcia Joseph and Kaleb John were winners for Point Fortin New Jets (PFNJ). Joseph topped the field in the girls' U-17 heptathlon (3,281) ahead of her clubmate Zada Charles (3,180) and double Carifta medallist Fulfilling Athletics Dreams' (FAD) Durliana Rouse (3126). All three are from Point Fortin. John (4,479) took the men's decathlon ahead of the D'Abadie Progressive pair of Omari George (4,364) and Joel Augustine (3,574).
Kaori Robley and fellow Kaizen Panthers teammate Devonte Romeo returned home with gold.
Robley's 3,925 was enough to secure the girls' U-20 heptathlon title ahead of PFNJ'S duo of Destiny Bartholomew (3,052) and Diamond Paul (2,837).
Romeo topped the field in the boys' U-17 decathlon (4,189) as Josiah Fox Fod Flash Pooint (FOD) with 4,129, had to contend with silver and Neon Wolves' Learie Drayton (3,638), the bronze.
Aiden Beard, representing IG Fastlane, grabbed the girls' U-9 triathlon (1,026) leaving Concorde's Trey Morris (964) and Daniel Roberts of Rss Phoenix (920) with the minor medals.
Athletes from Tobago dominated the medal standing copping nine of the 13 titles on offer. The Tobagonians also occupied the top two spots in the U-13 and U-15 categories and are in line to secure all places on the national team for tthe North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Age Group (U-13/U-15) Championships in Managua, Nicarigua from July 4-6.
