Jereem "The Dream" Richards ran a new ation­al record over 400 me­tres, as the di­a­mond league made its fi­nal stop in Brus­sels, Bel­gium Fri­day. 

Richards eclipsed his own pre­vi­ous mark of 43.72 sec­onds, which he set just last Sep­tem­ber at the world cham­pi­onships in Tokyo when he fin­ished in a time of 43.68 sec­onds in the men's 400 me­tres fi­nal.  Bu­sang Collen Ke­bi­nat­shipi who won in a Di­a­mond League, Meet and Botswana na­tion­al record on 43.40, the Unit­ed States Ja­co­ry Pat­ter­son took brinze in a per­son­al best 43.78

Run­ning out of lane 8, Richards led the pack from the 50 me­tre mark un­til around 350 me­tres when Ke­bi­nat­shipi took over.

 It is the third time Richards has bro­ken the Trinidad and To­ba­go 400 me­tre record, the first in 2024 at the Paris Olympics when he fin­ished fourth in 43.78 sec­onds, to break Machel Ce­de­nio's pre­vi­ous record of 44.01s.

He broke it again at the 2025 World Cham­pi­onships in Tokyo, Japan, win­ning sil­ver in 43.72. Richards is the hold­er of both na­tion­al in­door and out­door 400 me­tre records
