Sobo Vil­lage Strik­ers are the new cham­pi­ons of the De­porti­vo Point Fortin (PF) Com­mu­ni­ty Foot­ball League (CFL).

​On Fri­day night at the Ma­haica Sport­ing Com­plex, the south­ern­ers—once called the Pitch­men be­fore their merg­er with Sobo Strik­ers—se­cured a 3-2 vic­to­ry over Guapo Up­ris­ing Youths. Jor­dan Ri­ley net­ted a brace and Wes­ley John added a third to claim the ti­tle left va­cant af­ter de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons San­ta Flo­ra City FC were elim­i­nat­ed by Up­ris­ing in a semi­fi­nal penal­ty shootout af­ter both failed to break a 3-3 dead­lock at the end of reg­u­la­tion time.

​Ri­ley, a na­tion­al beach foot­ball play­er, opened the scor­ing at the half-hour mark af­ter both teams trad­ed punch­es in the ear­li­er mo­ments of the af­fair. Guapo Up­ris­ing re­spond­ed in the 50th minute when Kel­lon Williams lev­elled the match at 1-1. Rid­ing a wave of mo­men­tum, Up­ris­ing took the lead just four min­utes lat­er (54th minute) cour­tesy of a strike from Ju­nior As­soon.

The Strik­ers, who earned their spot in the fi­nal thanks to a 52nd-minute Mar­cus Joseph win­ner against Fyz­abad Unit­ed at the same venue last week, were any­thing but daunt­ed by the Up­ris­ing ad­van­tage. In the 76th minute, Ri­ley struck the net once more to com­plete his dou­ble and push the match in­to ex­tra time.

​With both teams fac­ing the loom­ing threat of a penal­ty shootout, John stepped up to seal the crown for the Strik­ers, beat­ing the Up­ris­ing goal­keep­er in the 108th minute—a blow from which Guapo Up­ris­ing could not re­cov­er.

​Sobo Strik­ers claimed the $20,000 first-place prize and cham­pi­onship tro­phy, while Guapo Up­ris­ing took home the $17,000 run­ner-up prize. Ri­ley was named Play­er of the Match in front of a sold-out crowd that in­clud­ed Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for Point Fortin Ernesto Ke­sar and May­or Clyde James, both of whom greet­ed the teams pri­or to kick­off in this fifth edi­tion of the De­porti­vo PF CFL.

Ear­li­er in the evening, de­throned cham­pi­on San­ta Flo­ra City FC en­sured they wouldn't leave the sea­son emp­ty-hand­ed, de­feat­ing Fyz­abad Unit­ed 2-1 to claim third place.

San­ta Flo­ra had to dig deep af­ter Ki­won Bai­ley put Fyz­abad ahead in the eighth minute. The San­ta Flo­ra unit an­swered mid­way through the first half when Ky­ron Williams tied the game 1-1 in the 23rd minute. Short­ly af­ter the break, Dono­van Dray­ton sealed the vic­to­ry with a 51st-minute strike to se­cure third-place ho­n­ours for San­ta Flo­ra, who took home $15,000. Fourth-placed Fyz­abad col­lect­ed $12,000.
