Rivalz Billiards Club rebounded from a disappointing third-round performance to defeat Sikarioz Billiards Club five to zero on Wednesday in week four of the National Pool League Premier division. With the win, the Reagan Low Chew Tung-led Rivalz climbs back up the thirteen-team table from seventh to third with two wins from three matches.
The Rivalz captain got the home team off to the perfect start, defeating Fred Graham 4-nil.
Krishendath Heeralal made it two wins in two games, bouncing back from a one-frame deficit to beat Albi Knights 4-1. The hosts secured the match with a 4-3 win in the doubles encounter as Fareed Abraham and Randell Boodhan teamed up against Sikarioz BC captain Adrian Logie and Muhammad Rahman.
The pair of Abraham and Boodhan fought back from 1-3 down to win a nail-biting contest.
That was the first of three exciting hill/hill games. The Next would be between Rivalz Clint Bachan and Kevin Browne. Bachan took a two-nil lead only for Browne to hit back with wins in the next two frames. Bachan went up 3-2 and again. Browne tied things up after six frames. Bachan finished stronger and gave the hosts a 4-nil match lead. Martin Davis completed the sweep with a come-from-behind win against Adrian Mora.
After splitting the first two frames, Mora went up three frames to win and was looking set to avoid the rout, but several unforced errors allowed Davis back in the match.
Davis, who is returning to league competition after several years, was more composed and eventually closed out the game with three unanswered racks. This is the first time the Sikarioz Billiards The club has suffered a 5-nil drubbing in their three years of being in the National Pool League.
The loss sees them drop from fifth to ninth in the standings.
United Stars continue to lead the Premier division after a 4-1 win against the fifth place Untouchables. The Aaron Raghoonanan-captained United Stars remain unbeaten through four rounds of competition.
The Mercenaries, who were inactive in week four, are also undefeated after playing three matches and are second in the standings.
Central Stars now occupy fourth place on the NPL table after suffering their first loss of the league.
The Stars from Central, captained by Jesse Gangaram, went under to the Central Premier Pool Club 2-3. Despite the win, the Central Premier Pool Club are in eighth place on the standings with two wins and one loss.
Roxbury Hustlerz and Shooting Stars are sixth and seventh, respectively, on the NPL table.
The two teams met at the Pyramid Sports Bar this past week, and it was the home team, the Shooting Stars, which dominated the match, winning the encounter four games to one. UD Assassins, playing out of the Upper Deck Sports Bar in St. James registered their first win of the 8 Ball campaign, beating the visiting Orinoco A team 3-2.
In the final match of the round, the Princes Town Underdogs also got their first points of the league, handing Scotchie’s Spartans a 4-1 defeat.
