All-rounder Andre Russell will make his final international appearance for the West Indies on home soil when the team faces Australia in a T20 series at Sabina Park on July 20 and 22.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed that the two matches will mark the farewell of Russell, a two-time T20 World Cup winner and veteran of more than 140 international matches across formats over a 15-year career.
Russell, a member of the 16-man squad selected for the series, was chosen based on performance. CWI indicated that the squad is part of the preparation process for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Titleholder Russell said representing the West Indies was among the major accomplishments in his career.
“To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in my life. When I was a kid, I did not expect to get to this level,” said Russell. “This inspired me to become better because I wanted to leave a mark in the maroon colours and become an inspiration to others.”
Russell highlighted the opportunity to end his international career in familiar conditions in Jamaica.
“I love playing at home in front of my family and friends,” said Russell. “I want to finish my international career on a high while being a role model for the next generation of cricketers coming out of the Caribbean.”
CWI Head Coach Daren Sammy described Russell as a dedicated professional.
“Andre has always been the consummate professional and a fierce competitor,” said Sammy. “Whether I was captaining him or now coaching him, his hunger to perform and win for West Indies has never wavered.”
Sammy also extended support to Russell as he moves forward.
“I wish him all the best on his next chapter, and I hope he continues to inspire generations to come.”
Russell made his T20 International debut in 2011 and was a key part of the West Indies teams that won the T20 World Cups in 2012 and 2016.
The upcoming matches at Sabina Park will give fans in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean a final opportunity to witness Russell representing the regional side in the T20 format.
CWI has not yet announced any official ceremony marking Russell’s farewell, but the matches are expected to draw attention across the region.
