West In­dies Un­der-19 play­ers Shali­ni Sama­roo, Shunelle Sawh, Djen­a­ba Joseph and KD­jazz Mitchell will fea­ture for T&T at the Crick­et West In­dies (CWI) Ris­ing Stars U-19 Girls Cham­pi­onship which bowls off in T&T on Tues­day and will run un­til Ju­ly 15.

This year, the tour­na­ment will be 30 overs and T&T will face off against Guyana, the Lee­ward Is­lands, Ja­maica, Bar­ba­dos and the Wind­ward Is­lands.

The ac­tion will un­fold at three venues - the Na­tion­al Crick­et Cen­tre (NCC) in Bal­main, Cou­va, the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies Sport and Phys­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre (UWI SPEC) in St Au­gus­tine and Gilbert Park Crick­et Ground (GPCG), Cal­i­for­nia.

Sama­roo, who com­petes with club team UWI, will serve as cap­tain of the ex­pe­ri­enced T&T team and will have Sawh as her vice-cap­tain. The duo as well as Joseph and Mitchell, Sawh's Achiev­ers team­mates, were all part of the WI U-19 team at the in­au­gur­al ICC Women U-19 World Cup in South Africa, ear­li­er this year.

An­oth­er Achiev­ers play­er Sama­ra Ram­nath, 15, who made her se­nior na­tion­al de­but at the se­nior re­gion­al 50 overs and T20 tour­na­ment in St Kitts in June and was "Play­er of the Se­ries" in the Tri-Na­tion se­ries in April against the Wind­ward Is­lands and Bar­ba­dos, will al­so be look­ing to con­tin­ue her de­vel­op­ment with a suc­cess­ful tour­na­ment.

T&T will open the six-tour­na­ment against Bar­ba­dos at NCC, while the Wind­ward Is­lands take on Guyana at Gilbert Park. The Lee­ward Is­lands and Ja­maica will do bat­tle at UWI SPEC.

Sawh, Ram­nath and Joseph will be us­ing this tour­na­ment as prepa­ra­tion for their Women Caribbean Pre­mier League (CPL) de­but in Au­gust/Sep­tem­ber.

Joseph will be part of the Guyana Ama­zon War­riors out­fit while Sawh and Ram­nath are with the Trin­ba­go Knight Rid­ers (TKR).
