West Indies Under-19 players Shalini Samaroo, Shunelle Sawh, Djenaba Joseph and KDjazz Mitchell will feature for T&T at the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars U-19 Girls Championship which bowls off in T&T on Tuesday and will run until July 15.
This year, the tournament will be 30 overs and T&T will face off against Guyana, the Leeward Islands, Jamaica, Barbados and the Windward Islands.
The action will unfold at three venues - the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva, the University of the West Indies Sport and Physical Education Centre (UWI SPEC) in St Augustine and Gilbert Park Cricket Ground (GPCG), California.
Samaroo, who competes with club team UWI, will serve as captain of the experienced T&T team and will have Sawh as her vice-captain. The duo as well as Joseph and Mitchell, Sawh's Achievers teammates, were all part of the WI U-19 team at the inaugural ICC Women U-19 World Cup in South Africa, earlier this year.
Another Achievers player Samara Ramnath, 15, who made her senior national debut at the senior regional 50 overs and T20 tournament in St Kitts in June and was "Player of the Series" in the Tri-Nation series in April against the Windward Islands and Barbados, will also be looking to continue her development with a successful tournament.
T&T will open the six-tournament against Barbados at NCC, while the Windward Islands take on Guyana at Gilbert Park. The Leeward Islands and Jamaica will do battle at UWI SPEC.
Sawh, Ramnath and Joseph will be using this tournament as preparation for their Women Caribbean Premier League (CPL) debut in August/September.
