Naomi Sampson scored a hat-trick to lead Paragon I to a 5-1 come-from-behind whipping of Paragon II, to go nine points clear at the top of the women’s Open Division of the T&T Hockey Board (TTHB) Outdoor Seven-A-Side League at the National Hockey Centre in Tacarigua on Sunday.
Sampson found the target in the sixth, 19th, and 23rd minutes, while captain Alanna Lewis (11th) and Jedyah Kistow (26th) chipped in with one each after Paragon II had taken a shock second-minute lead through Chezelle Miller.
Paragon I’s win was their tenth from as many matches, moving them to a maximum 30 points. Magnolias I sit second with 21 points and a match in hand, while Harvard Checkers are third with 19 points after a 2-0 beating of Police, thanks to a pair of goals from Danielle Martin.
In the men’s Trinity category, Antonio Quashie helped himself to six goals (3rd, 6th, 12th, 23rd, 23rd, 27th) in Police’s 11-1 spanking of Pro Sport.
Police also got two goals each from Mark Ayen (17th, 20th) and Justin Beharry (29th, 30th), and one from Che Modeste (8th), while Pro Sport got their lone item from N’kosi Marcelle in the 28th minute.
Siu Butt keeps QPPC I men four clear
Nicholas Siu Butt fired in a first-half double to inspire Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) to an entertaining 4-3 win over Defence Force, to remain four points clear at the top of the men’s Open Division.
Siu Butt put the Parkites ahead as early as the second minute. However, four minutes later, Ghardel Elcock replied for Defence Force before his teammate Dylan Francis fired in the go-ahead item four minutes later, only for Siu Butt to draw his team from the penalty-spot on the stroke of the 15-minute half-time whistle.
On the resumption, Jeremy Nieves put the Parkites ahead in the 20th minute and Jordan Vieira handed them a two-goal cushion in the 23rd with a 4-2 lead, before Francis fired in his second a minute later to pull his team back to within one goal at 4-3.
However, the Parkites held on for the win, their tenth in 11 matches to push their points tally to 31 points, four clear of Police Service, which trounced Notre Dame 6-0 led by Jordan Reynos’ beaver-trick.
Reynos scored in the 13th, 20th, 22nd, and 30th minutes while Camron Adamson (28th) and Nicholas Grant (29th) chipped in with late items in the lopsided win over the Dames.
In the other men’s Open match on Sunday, Malvern blanked Fatima 4-0 with Shawn Phillip scoring a first-half double in the eighth and 14th minutes with Rene Mohammed (17th pen) and Jeshajah Drayton (19th) adding second-half items as they joined Defence Force on 20 points, one adrift of third-place Paragon, who have a match in hand.
