San Juan South Secondary School and International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPS) copped two titles each when the National Secondary Schools Volleyball League Championship concluded at the International School of Port-of-Spain Gymnasium, International Drive, Westmoorings on Sunday.
In the Boys Open Division final, San Juan South Secondary made light work of opponents Maple Leaf International School to come away with a 15-3, 15-5 triumph.
When the semifinals were contested earlier in the week at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville, San Fernando, San Juan South Secondary battled past Iere High Secondary School 15-12, 20-18, and Maple Leaf International School dismissed Barrackpore West Secondary 15-13, 15-6.
During Sunday’s programme, San Juan South Secondary School won their first title when they defeated the host International School of Port-of-Spain 15-9, 15-12 in the Boys Under-16 title match.
This was after San Juan South Secondary defeated Barrackpore West Secondary 15-6, 15-11 in their semifinal while International School humbled St George’s College 17-15, 15-4.
ISPS claims U-14, U-16 girls titles
When the day of finals served off at Westmoorings, International School PoS lifted the first title on offer when they battled past rivals Maple Leaf International School 15-2, 11-15, 15-10 in the Girls Under-14 final.
International School of (PoS) had brushed aside Tunapuna South Secondary 15-6, 15-6 in the final-four encounter, and, Maple Leaf scolded St Joseph Convent (Port-of-Spain) 15-5, 15-5 in their semifinal.
In the Under-16 Girls age group, the International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPS) overcame South East Port-of-Spain Secondary 15-12, 15-8 to take home the coveted title.
In the semifinals played at Pleasantville last week, ISPS cemented a spot in the final after defeating St Joseph’s Convent, Port-of-Spain, 15-10, 15-7 in their semifinal, and South East Port-of-Spain (SEPoS) humbled Arima North 15-6, 15-5 in the other final-four match.
Bishop Anstey cops U-20 girls crown
Not to be overshadowed, Bishop Anstey High School Port-of-Spain captured the Girls’ Open Division title when they denied International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPS) a third title on the day courtesy of a 14-16, 15-13, 15-11 victory.
In their respective semifinals played at Pleasantville last week, Bishop Anstey High School (PoS) battled past ASJA Girls College 15-8, 15-13, and ISPS withstood a stubborn test from St Joseph’s Convent (PoS) to prevail in their best-of-three sets contest 15-13, 15-12.
Up next on the calendar will be the T&T Volleyball Federation Super League ‘A’ and ‘B’ Divisions as well as the Corporate League, Development Festival, and Premier League, respectively.
