The T&T Secondary Schools Netball Association (TTSSNA) Championship Week is set to ignite today at Shaw Park, Tobago, kicking off with the highly anticipated individual and team shooting competitions.
All eyes will be on the Girls Under-20 category, where Junior national standout Shian Lewis of Diego Martin Central will be among the 12 hopefuls vying for the individual shooting title.
Today is a pure test of raw, individual skill for the netball court’s sharpest shooters across four divisions. The action follows the opening ceremony at 9 am.
Lewis, a standout on the national circuit, carries the weight of expectation—and the momentum of recent success. Earlier this year, she was a vital member of the T&T Under-16 team that snatched the Caribbean Netball Association Jean Pierre Youth Championships crown for the first time. Now, she aims to cap her individual efforts by securing the prestigious TTSSNA U-20 shooting title.
The competition is expected to be fierce, featuring the best shooters from schools across T&T. Featured from the East are Brianna Morang (Tunapuna) and Adannaya Martin (El Dorado East). Gabrielle Richards and Tye-sha Grant represented St Joseph College and St Joseph’s Convent San Fernando, respectively. The consistent shooters from Rio Claro East, Megan Ray and Myeisha De Cain, were ready to make their mark. The Tobago contingent, with Kayla Campbell (Signal Hill) and Mikayda Sylvester (Speyside), will look to enjoy home-court advantage. Lewis’s rivals from her own area include Jayleen Clarke and Alyssa Glenn (both of Diego Martin North), all keen to outshine her.
Beyond her individual quest, Lewis will also look to help her Diego Martin Central unit clinch the U-20 team shooting honours. They face stiff competition from St Joseph Convent San Fernando (Sando), Rio Claro East, Tunapuna, El Dorado East, East Mucurapo, Signal Hill and Speyside High.
Three other divisions—13 & Under, 15 & Under, and Boys—will also be in action today for their respective individual and team shooting competitions.
The focus shifts later in the week as teams begin their battles for the respective divisional titles. Action on each game day starts at 9 am.
