Allrounders Zachary Siewah and Kaiden Pollard combined for a match-winning 111-run partnership to propel New Generation Recruits to a convincing 133-run victory over Next Gen Cricket Academy on the second day of the Flair Elite Under-23 Cricket (25-Over) Tournament at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva, on Sunday (November 1).
The pair rescued the Recruits from a disastrous start before setting up a commanding total of 207 for six in their allotted 25 overs.
After losing Zakariyya Mohammed, Yuvvie Kantasingh and Elijah Ashton for ducks, the Recruits were struggling at 28 for three in the fourth over when Pollard joined opener Siewah at the crease.
However, the two youngsters showed tremendous composure and attacking intent, putting together a crucial 111-run stand to turn the innings around.
Siewah was the first to depart, scoring a superb 66 from 57 deliveries. The former Fatima College batsman struck five fours and four sixes, combining patience with aggression to rebuild the innings alongside the current Fatima College cricketer.
Pollard continued the momentum, bringing up an entertaining 57 from 53 balls. His innings included three sixes and two fours, with the youngster displaying the power reminiscent of his father, former West Indies white-ball captain and current Mumbai Indians coach Kieron Pollard.
Pollard was the fifth wicket to fall at 139, but the damage had already been done as New Generation Recruits finished strongly on 207 for six.
Ronaldo Smith, who claimed the first three wickets, was the pick of the Next Gen bowlers with three for 33, while Amrit Pittiman supported with two for 32.
In reply, Next Gen Cricket Academy never threatened the target and were dismissed for just 74 in 15.1 overs.
Kevin Kanhai, with 19, and Sanjay Naidoo, who made 11, were the only batsmen to reach double figures as the Recruits' bowling attack dominated proceedings.
Long-serving Queen's Park Cricket Club fast bowler Chadeon Raymond led the demolition with an impressive four for 16 from five overs.
Davis Guerra chipped in with two for 11, while Josh Telemaque claimed two for 25. Pollard completed an outstanding all-round performance, returning to take two for 20 from his five overs.
