Fatima College got the better of Vishnu Boys' Hindu College in a match that lived up to expectations in the Secondary Schools Cricket League, on Thursday.
The matchup at Bamboo Settlement saw the top two batters square off in the brilliant sunshine.
Zachary Siewah and Andrew Rambaran the middle-order batsmen for Fatima and Vishnu Boys, respectively, were among the runs for their schools in the Fatima win.
Fatima captain Joshua Davis won the toss and chose to bat first. They got off to a slow start and lost Adrian Mahase for 13 at 49 for one in the 15th over.
Siewah came in at four and almost singlehandedly changed the match. He came in with the score on 66 for two when he joined opener Caiden Mack. They took the score to 153 before Mack was caught for 61.
Siewah went on to score 84, as the Mucurapo-based college registered 232 all out with just one ball remaining from their 50 overs
In reply, Vishnu Boys made a stumbling start and were nine for two, losing both openers. They were in further trouble when Ishmael Ali was caught for 38 at 60 for three. With Andrew Rambaran at the wicket, Vishnu always had a chance but the chance grew dim when their leading batter was dismissed for 38 with the score 106 for 5.
Vishnu Boys eventually closed their innings on 162 for 8, handing Fatima the 70-run win.
Fatima has played the tougher teams, losing both to Presentation Colleges (Chaguanas and San Fernando) and has beaten Vishnu Boys, but captain Davis was happy with the win but very cautious about the remainder of the season.
"None of the games, I think will be easy. All games are challenging, you never know. Cricket could go either way but hopefully, we will come out with a victory and do well in the games.”
