Para-athlete Akeem “The Titan” Stewart, who continues to create national pride, recently returned to T&T, following his inspiring silver medal performance at the 2025 World Para-Athletics Championships in New Delhi, India on Friday (Oct 3).
Officials from the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs (MSYA)and the Sport Company of T&T (SporTT) gathered at the Piarco International Airport on Monday (Oct 6) to celebrate Stewart’s outstanding achievement.
Stewart secured the silver medal with a season-best throw of 59.64 metres in the men’s discus F44 event, cementing his reputation for excellence on the global stage of para-sport. The result adds to a decorated career, reaffirming his place among the elite athletes of T&T.
Phillip Watts, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, offered congratulations on behalf of the Government and the people of T&T.
“Akeem has once again proven that resilience, dedication, and the heart of a champion are the true hallmarks of a titan,” said Minister Watts.
“His silver medal is not just a personal victory but a beacon of inspiration for our entire nation. On behalf of the Government and the proud citizens of T&T, I extend our deepest congratulations. We are immensely proud of his achievement on the world stage, and the Government remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting our athletes as they continue to fly our flag high.”
This latest medal is Stewart’s first since 2017, marking a significant and hard-fought return to the podium.
“I was sick leading up to the games, and it looks bad on an athlete to prepare, train hard and not perform. Winning this is something I really wanted,” Stewart said. He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support, emphasising, “Silver is a stepping stone in the right direction.”
Acting permanent secretary, Gabre-Jesu McTair, who was among those welcoming Stewart, said, “We at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs recognise the significance of the medal you have won, and what it means to Trinidad and Tobago.”
President of the T&T Paralympic Committee, Sudhir Ramessar, praised Stewart’s excellence and consistency, noting, “He continues to excel and place T&T at the pinnacle of para-sporting excellence.”
Stewart’s performance, he added, stands as an inspiration for all aspiring para-athletes throughout the region.
