T&T’s men’s hock­ey team re­mained per­fect at the Pan Amer­i­can Chal­lenge Tour­na­ment with a 9-0 de­mo­li­tion of Guatemala at the An­dres Aveli­no Cac­eres Sports Com­plex in Li­ma, Pe­ru, on Sat­urday.

It was a state­ment win for the se­nior men as the team all but se­cured its ad­vance­ment to yet an­oth­er Pan Amer­i­can Cup.

Teague Mar­cano scored his third and fourth goals of the chal­lenge to give T&T a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quar­ter. He added an­oth­er in the sec­ond quar­ter his hat-trick com­ing from a trio of penal­ty cor­ners.

T&T then piled on more mis­ery on “Los Chap­ines” in the third stan­za, ap­ply­ing more pres­sure and con­sol­i­dat­ing their lead with a five-goal flur­ry.

Nicholas Grant added his name to the list of scor­ers, Jo­van Wren picked up a brace from a pair of penal­ty cor­ners, Shel­don De Lisle got his, and Mar­cano found the back of the goal for his fourth of the match and sixth of the tour­na­ment.

Cap­tain Jor­dan Vieira scored the fi­nal goal to seal the drub­bing as T&T con­tin­ued its omi­nous form in South Amer­i­ca.

T&T is yet to con­cede a goal over two match­es af­ter a Teague Mar­cano dou­ble gave the Ca­lyp­so Stick­men a 2-0 win over hosts Pe­ru.

T&T sits atop the stand­ings on a full three points, Guatemala is sec­ond on three hav­ing beat­en Paraguay 2-1 in their open­ing match of the round-robin tour­ney, Paraguay and Pe­ru are with­out a point to their cred­it, the for­mer is third by virtue of a bet­ter goal dif­fer­ence.

The se­nior men’s na­tion­al team was sched­uled to face Paraguay this morn­ing and are keen on fin­ish­ing the four-team tour­na­ment un­beat­en.

The top two teams from the 2024 Pan Amer­i­can Chal­lenge Tour­na­ment will ad­vance to next year’s Pan Amer­i­can Cup which will be host­ed in Mon­te­v­ideo, Uruguay in Sep­tem­ber.

T&T has al­ready booked its spot in the 2025 FIH In­door World Cup af­ter fin­ish­ing run­ners-up to Ar­genti­na at the 2024 In­door Pan Amer­i­can Cup in Cal­gary Cana­da in March.
