T&T striker Ryan Telfer scored a late equaliser for Miami FC, his fourth goal for the club, however, it was not enough as they still fell to a last-minute 1-2 loss to Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the United Soccer League Championship Division on Saturday night.
Playing at the Florida International University Stadium, Miami, both teams went into the half-time interval goalless after which Telfer, the scorer of the Soca Warriors’ opening goal in a 3-2 come-from-behind Concacaf Nations League A Group A win away to El Salvador last week was introduced in the 61st minute for Claudio Repetto.
However, it was the visitors who took the lead two minutes later when Albert Dikwa converted a penalty after an infringement by Paco Craig.
Chances of a Miami comeback took a blow in the 76th when Bolu Akinyode was shown a second yellow card to reduce the host to ten men, but with four minutes left on the clock, Telfer netted the equaliser to the delight of his teammates off an assist from Gabriel De Freitas.
Miami FC’s joy was short-lived though as Robbie Mertz then snatched a 90th-minute winner for Riverhounds off an assist from Danny Griffin.
With the loss, Miami remained tenth of 12 clubs on the Eastern Conference standings with 29 points from as many matches, just four ahead of Loudoun United while cellar-placed Hartford Athletic has 16.
Elsewhere, T&T defender Jelani Peters came on as a half-time substitute in his Memphis 901 FC 4-2 win over Hartford Athletic while former T&T Under-17 and Under-20 World Cup captain Leston Paul, the club captain was an unused substitute.
The win lifted Memphis 901 to fifth spot with 45 points from 29 matches, 12 behind Pittsburgh Riverhounds while Tampa Bay Rowdies sit in the second spot with 54 points, and Charleston Battery, third with 53 followed by Louisville City with 46.
In another match, defender Leland Archer captained Charleston Battery in a 2-2 draw away to Loudoun United.
In the Western Conference, Shannon Gomez was a spectator for defending champions San Antonio FC in an entertaining 3-3 draw with Tampa Bay to stay second with 51 points from 30 matches, three behind Sacramento Republic.
