T&T Junior Under-16 Boys Davis Cup team continued their winning ways at the International Tennis Federation Junior Team Tournament, a pre-qualifying at the Federacion Salvadoreña de Tennis, San Salvador from on Monday by beating Suriname 3-0.
The win comes on the back of a similar 3-0 result against the Bahamas on Sunday.
On Monday, the team of Kamron Mc Intosh-Ross and Ethan Wong proved to be superior to their Surinamese counterparts, with Wong prevailing over DexterKoorndijk in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the first singles, while Mc Intosh-Ross was also a convincing winner 6-4, 7-6(5) over Kunsh Moolchandani, and basically wrapped up the win, needing only to play in the doubles later on as a matter of mere formality.
Leading 2-0, Wong and Mc Intosh-Ross made sure of an unblemished record by beating the pair of Koorndijk and Moolchandani in the doubles encounter 6-1, 6-1. The T&T boys will now face El Salvador today for the right to top the group in the round-robin phase.
The boys' team McIntosh-Ross, Shae Millington and Wong, along with coach Jerome Ward has been competing in Pool A of the 15-team tournament against host El Salvador, Suriname and Bahamas.
Pool B features Costa Rica, Barbados, Jamaica and Guatemala; Pool C comprises Honduras, Aruba, Puerto Rico and Nicaragua while Cayman Islands, Panama and Curacao are in Pool D.
Prior to arriving in Central America for the tournament, the boys contingent enjoyed a live-in camp at the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Florida as part of their preparation for the World Juniors qualifiers. The objectives of the academy were to have more tournament sessions, continuous match play with players from all over the world and maintenance of the teams' fitness and mental strength.
Meanwhile, the local Junior Girls Fed Cup team of Cameron Wong, Aalisha Alexis and Keesa Lee Young, along with coach Anthony Jeremiah will depart for Florida today, to attend the same academy until Saturday (February 8) before leaving for El Salvador for their Team Competition which serves off on February 10 until February 15.
