Liam Trepte and Alexi Ramirez were crowned national champions when the T&T Cycling Federation held its National Road Criterium on Sunday at the Southern Main Road-Roundabout adjacent to the Ministry of Works and Transport, Licensing Office to Washington Roundabout.
In the race for the Men's Elite 16-laps ride, Trepte of Raiders Cycle and Multisport rode to victory ahead of Tariq Woods of Evolution Cycling Academy and his clubmate Nathan Alexander while Kirtson George of Heatwave was fourth, and Benjamin Mouttet of Breakaway, fifth across the finish line.
Trepte was a double winner on the day as he also captured the national title in the Under-23 Men's Elite competition, beating Woods and Mouttet to the top spot, with Evolution's Jean-Marc Granderson in fourth and Enrique De Comarmond in fifth.
The USA-based Ramirez of Heatwave/Miami Blazers braved the hot and humid conditions to take the top spot in the Women's Elite category ahead of Heatwave's Cheyenne Awai and Phoebe Sandy of Madonna Wheelers while Marsha Trepte of Raiders Cycle and Multisport and unattached entrant Kanika Paul-Payne were fourth and fifth, respectively.
