Top-seeded Vishal Ramsubhag and Amara Urquhart both won their Under-19 Boys and Girls Singles title while Ethan Ramcharan, T’Shelle Barnes and Asia-Lee Waller also had success when the Junior Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO) Championships ended in Aruba, Sunday (August 25).
Playing at the Centro Deportivo Playa in Vondellaan, Oranjestad, Ramsubhag defeated Jamaican Daniel Ford 21-18, 21-16 in the Boys’ U-19 decider while Urquhart overwhelmed countrywoman Sanna Guria in one of two all-T&T age-group Singles finals 21-15, 21-15 to take home the Girls’ U-19 title.
The Boys’ U-17 final was the other all-T&T affair with Ramcharan whipping Terrell Hernandez 21-13, 21-11 while top-ranked Barnes topped second-ranked Jade Asmoredjo of Suriname 21-17, 21-15 to complete the age-group sweep for T&T.
In the U-13 Girls, Waller was a comfortable winner over Suriname’s Chayenne Ramlal 21-12, 21-11.
However, in the U-15 championship match, T&T’s Liam Persad came up short against second-ranked Ruiz Lieuw-A-Joe of Suriname 13-21, 21-15, 10-21.
Overall, T&T players won 47 medals inclusive of 16 gold medals (five singles, 11 doubles), eight silver and 23 bronze medals to top the table ahead of Suriname with 28,5 medals (eight gold, 12,5 silver, eight bronze) .

In the all-T&T Girls U-17 Doubles final, Barnes (T) and Tenniya Tobias battled past Kimora-Lee Bissessar and Isabelle Waller 21-13, 16-21, 21-6 in an all-T&T encounter.
The Boys U-13 Doubles final produced more gold for the red, white and black flag with Liam Rajkumar and Logan Waithe outclassing Suriname’s Nathan Fernandes and Damian Ramkissoon, 21-4, 21-16.
Waller won her second gold medal on the day when she combined with Rishelle Boodoosingh to lift the Girls U-13 Doubles crown after they beat Aruba’s Aaradhya Marchani and T&T’s Christine Persadie 21-5, 21-6 to end with a perfect 3-0 record in their four-team round-robin series.
The Girls’ U-15 Doubles final provided another gold for T&T with the pair of Azaria Gaskill and Samiya Karim beating Suriname’s Hanna-Christa Emanuels and Riana Wijngaarde 21-10, 23-21 in the final.
Ramcharan added his second gold when he teamed up with Andrew Babwah to outclass Suriname’s Terrence Li and Shaquille Somedjo 21-12, 21-11 in the Boys’ U-17 Doubles.
In the Boys’ U-19 age-group, Ramsubhag became the fourth T&T player to win two titles on the day when he combined with Aditya Maharaj for a 21-7, 21-9 triumph against Daniel Ford of Jamaica and Barbadian Shaillon Johnson.
In the Girls’ U-19 category, Danyelle Barnes and Guria brushed aside Guyana’s Leshaunte Berkley and Gabrielle Felix, to top their four-team round-robin series with a 3-0 record for the gold medal while Kara-Ashley Robertson and Urquhart took silver with a 2-1 mark after their 21-11, 21-17 defeat of Barbadians Arianne Downes and Kaila Walcott.
T&T’s Boys U-15 duo of Ethan Jitmansingh and Zachary Rigues came up short in their bid to add gold, falling to host players Aryan Purushotamdas and Deepesh Lalwani 12-21, 21-18, 14-21.

The T&T trio of Waller (Asia-Lee), Ramcharan and Ramsubhag completed their respective age-group triple crown when they won Mixed Doubles titles to close out the tournament.
Waller partnered with Liam Rajkumar for gold in the U-13 Mixed Doubles final as they brushed aside the top-ranked pair Damian Ramkissoon and C’Ayra Kromosoeto of Suriname 23-21, 21-16.
Ramcharan secured his triple-crown after he and Barnes (T) bettered fellow T&T duo, Siewdass Tristan and Kimora-Lee Bissessar 21-13, 21-15 in the U-17 Mixed Doubles gold medal clash while in another all-T&T battle, Ramsubhag and Guria topped the combination of Maharaj and Urquhart 21-19, 21-8 for the U-19 crown.
T&T’s Ricardo Sagramsingh and Samiya Karim also captured the Mixed Doubles U-15 trophy courtesy of their come-from-behind 15-21, 21-18, 21-14 defeat of Ruiz Lieuw-A-Joe and Wijngaarde of Suriname.
