T&T boys' team will go into their semifinals against Guyana at the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships as Group A winner after defeating Jamaica 26-5 in their final round-robin match at the South Sound Squash Club in the Cayman Islands on Friday.
Following victories over Bermuda 22-12 in their boys’ Group A opener followed by victory against Guyana, 20-13 on Thursday, the T&T boys returned to the same venue and defeated Jamaica with Anthony Allum spanking Cole Brown 11-2, 11-3, 11-3 to get things on the way.
Seth Thong then crushed Max Henzell 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 while Ross D'Juran dumped Govind Venugopal 11-1, 11-0, 11-5 and Vithala Chattergoon made light work of Jaden Emery 11-3, 11-6, 11-2 while Evan Ghuran won by default to secure victories for T&T.
Matteo Felicia was the lone T&T player to taste defeat, 11-9, 3-11, 6-11, 5-11 by Ethan Miller.
With the 3-0 record, T&T ended with 67 points having won 41 games to 20 losses while Guyana who beat Bermuda 21-12 in their final match was second with a 2-1 record and 59 points along with a 37-23 games win-loss ratio.
Bermuda was third with a 1-2 record and 45 points while Jamaica ended winless.
In the semifinals, T&T will face Group B runner-up St Vincent and the Grenadines who were beaten 20-10 in their table decider by Barbados.
Both Barbados and St Vincent and the Grenadines ended with the same 2-1 win-loss records, however, the Barbadians (53 points) won 33 games to 25 losses as compared to a 30-25 ratio of the runner-up who ended with 50 points.
In the girls’ Team competition, T&T women were overpowered by Guyana 2-30 and Barbados to suffer back-to-back losses after winning their first two matches on Thursday.
Guyana got wins from Avery Arjoon over Elise Mathura 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 and Safirah Sumner against Saanvi Chattergoon 11-5, 11-2, 11-5 in the U-19 match-ups; Emil Fung defeated Josie Thong 11-7, 11-5, 11-4 in the U-17s age-group; Kaylee Lowe swept past Aaniyah Ramdeen 11-1, 11-1, 11-6 in the U-15s; Tehani Munroe outlasted Gia Ghuran 11-9, 12-10, 4-11, 3-11, 11-7 in their U-12 encounter, and Alexis Arjoon crushed Lara Allum in the U-11s.
And versus the Barbadians, T&T was defeated 11-22 to drop to a 2-2 record ahead of their final round-robin match against Bermuda this morning from 8.30 am.
T&T's Chattergoon went under to Sarrayah Yearwood 4-11, 5-11, 4-11; Jess D'Juran was beaten by Danielle Benn 5-11, 11-13, 6-11; Eboni Atherley punished Elise Mathura 11-2, 11-0, 11-4; Olivia Watts got the better of Ramdeen 11-5, 11-3, 10-12, 11-9 and Danielle Benn silenced Jess D'Juran, 11-5, 12-11, 11-6.
T&T got their two wins from Josie Thong, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9 against Lenna Hamati, and Ghuran who steamrolled Moran Daniel 11-5, 11-2, 11-4.
On Wednesday, the T&T girls added to their 20-10 beating of Jamaica and by outclassing Cayman Islands 20-11.
For T&T, Allum won her U-11 meeting with Beryl Arch 11-2, 11-3, 11-5; Ghuran topped Sienna Scarpa 11-6, 10-12, 11-5, 11-2; Thong won by default, and Saanvi Chattergoon was an 11-9, 11-9, 11-7 winner over Milana Thompson.
Milanna Lamontagne defeated T&T's Elise Mathura 11-4, 11-1, 11-5 in the first girls' U-19 duel and Kaylee Pierre was their other winner, 11-8, 11-4, 11-5 over T&T's Aaniyah Ramdeen.
On Wednesday, Seth Thong and Anthony Allum won T&T’s first gold medal when they won the boys’ Doubles against the British Virgin Islands’ Henderson brothers, Daniel and Oliver, 11-6, 11-10 in 27 minutes.
When the tournament served off with quarterfinal matches earlier in the day, Thong and Allum overcame St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Aiden De Freitas, and Jayden George 10-11, 11-7, 11-7 before beating Guyana’s Shiloh Asregado and Justin Ten Pow, the second-ranked duo, 11-7, 11-9 in their semifinal.
In the girls Doubles, T&T’s Gia Ghuran and Aaniyah Ramdeen were upended at the opening quarterfinal stage, 2-11, 0-11 in ten minutes by Guyana’s Emily Funhg A Fat, and Kaylee Lowe and in the Mixed Doubles, Ross D’Juran and Josie Thong were ousted by Jamaicans’ Ethan Miller, and Elie Wilson 8-11, 9-11 in 15 minutes.
In the individual competition, Thong (S) and Gia Ghuran secured silver medals, while T&T also earned two bronze medals via Aaniyah Ramdeen and Josie Thong.
