Trinidad and Tobago meets Bermuda for the second time in Group B of Concacaf 2026 World Cup Qualifying’s final round, with both teams playing for pride at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain, as matches throughout the confederation begin simultaneously at 9 pm on Tuesday.
The first meeting between the two teams at Bermuda’s Dame Flora Duffy National Sports Centre ended 3-0 in T&T’s favour with goals from Dante Sealy (10th), Tyrese Spicer (30th), and Kobi Henry (49th), T&T’s sole win of the final round.
T&T can only finish third, and Bermuda, without a point from their previous five matches, have long seen their hopes of a first qualification evaporate. Despite the lowered stakes, head coach Dwight Yorke says his players haven’t lacked motivation heading into the final group game of this campaign.
“We spoke about it in length, the standard that we try to set ourselves despite the disappointment in the game against Jamaica and not getting the maximum points in the game,” he revealed.
“Now, it’s easy to just go through the motions and you can tell in my selection there will be changes, but not a whole deal of (wholesale) changes.
“We want to end the campaign on a high, and I think it’s important that we do that, and so when you look at an overall performance, hopefully with the win tomorrow (Tuesday), we would have gone through the whole campaign with one defeat in terms of when you include Costa Rica in it.”
Yorke added, “I think it’s the first time we’ve been able to achieve something like that, and so there was a lot of positive as much as there is a bit of negative in there, but we focus on the future of this team.”
There has been a lot of speculation as to what direction the national setup will take after today’s match; however, Yorke demurred when asked about his own future.
“This particular cycle of football will finish tomorrow (Tuesday) night,” he noted. “And so we want to make sure and finish that off and then the conversation can begin as to where we want to go with this group of players, and certainly I’m not too concerned about my future in terms of where that takes me.”
He also summed up his thoughts on his second head coach assignment: “International football is a little bit more subdued.”
Yorke said, “Outside of playing and qualifying for the World Cup as a captain, this is the next best thing that I’ve experienced. It’s been a wonderful experience, and I hope that that experience continues not just for me as a coach, but this team and the future of this country in terms of where football is concerned and I hope to be the leader of that going forward.”
Tomorrow’s match is also the last for Kevin Molino in a T&T strip; both he and long-time number one goalkeeper Marvin Phillip are expected to play their last for the senior men, and Yorke singled them out for particular praise at the end of their careers.
“I have watched Kevin Molino over the years as a player, and I admire him dearly. And then I had the opportunity to work with him, and I was hoping that he’d follow in my footsteps when I led the team to the World Cup,”
Yorke said, “I think I underestimated Molino, in some ways, and what he brings to the table but other than that, I think he was exceptional; whenever I called upon him to lead the team, he’s always been there first and giving 100 percent.
“Marvin Phillip as well; these are two guys who have been in Trinidad and Tobago football for a very, very long time, and hopefully the people of Trinidad and Tobago will come out one last time to really support them.”
The T&T Football Association (TTFA) will make a special presentation to honour the pair as well as Joevin Jones and one other player at today’s match according to the association.
