T&T men's Under-19 cricket team headed to St Vincent and the Grenadines on the weekend for the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Men's Under-19 Championship which starts on Tuesday and runs until August 1.
The men's tournament will feature five rounds of 50-over white ball matches and four rounds of three-day red-ball matches. These matches will be played at Arnos Vales, Sion Hill, Park Hill, and Cumberland.
The T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) announced the team that will be playing in St Vincent which was inclusive of Fatima College's captain Joshua Davis. Davis guided the Mucurapo-based institution to the final of the Secondary Schools Intercol T20 Knockout title earlier this year and will be the one to lead a team consisting of players who all earned their places for performances during both the Secondary Schools' season as well as the TTCB organised Inter-zone and U-19 Cup matches.
The team will not be short on talent, but instead, the skipper will be accompanied by strikers such as Kyle Ramdoo, Kyle Kissoondath, and Nick Ramlal.
Batting all-rounders Zachary Siewah and Riyaad Mohammed would be considered "reserves" due to their outstanding performances with batting, bowling, and fielding throughout Fatima's campaign. The bowling attack will be led by duo Liam Mamchan from Naparima College and Jacen Agard from Presentation College, San Fernando. Both bowlers helped guide their teams to excellence in an unbeaten 2023 run and the U-19 Premier League during the Premiership II campaign held by the TTCB.
These tournaments are usually used as a major platform to showcase talent and facilitate progress. Upcoming West Indies cricketers are given opportunities regionally and internationally. Following this tournament, the West Indies Rising Stars U-19 team will be selected for the Sri Lanka tour which will be a part of the preparation for the ICC Men's U-19 Cricket World Cup.
The first round of matches bowls off Tuesday. T&T takes on Barbados at Sion Hill at 9.30 am.
