T&T women miss out on 4x100m relay final

The T&T quar­tet of Leah Bertrand, Michelle-Lee Ahye, Re­yare Thomas (Abi­lene Wild­cats), and Ak­i­lah Lewis (Con­corde) missed out on qual­i­fi­ca­tion to the fi­nal of the 4x100m women’s re­lay fi­nal at the World Ath­let­ics Cham­pi­onships at the Na­tion­al Ath­let­ic Cen­tre in Bu­dapest, Hun­gary on Fri­day.

This af­ter the T&T four­some, de­spite run­ning a sea­son-best time of 42.85 sec­onds, could on­ly muster a fifth place fin­ish in the first of two semi­fi­nal heats.

Ja­maica, led by the leg­endary Shelly-Ann Fras­er-Pryce, won the heat in a sea­son-best time of 41.70 and was joined in the gold medal race by Great Britain (42.33), and Switzer­land (42.64) from the heat.

In semi­fi­nal heat two, the USA, mi­nus 100m cham­pi­on Sha’Car­ri Richard­son, stormed to vic­to­ry in a sea­son-best time of 41.59 sec­onds fol­lowed by fel­low qual­i­fiers to the fi­nal, Ivory Coast who clocked an African record time of 41.90, Italy, in a na­tion­al record time of 42.14, Nether­lands in 42.53, and Poland in 42.65 as both na­tions sneaked ahead of Ger­many (42.78), and T&T (42.85) for the fi­nal two places in the fi­nal.

Mean­while, T&T’s Keshorn Wal­cott sus­tained an in­jury while warm­ing up yes­ter­day and failed to start his men’s javelin qual­i­fi­er.
