Trinidad and To­ba­go’s Un­der-15 foot­ball team will con­test Group S of the in­au­gur­al FI­FA U-15 World Cup & Fes­ti­val 2026, sched­uled to take place in Azer­bai­jan from Oc­to­ber 22-31.

​The ju­nior T&T foot­ballers were drawn along­side the Cay­man Is­lands, Egypt, Iraq, Macau, Chi­na, and St Kitts and Nevis in the group, giv­ing them the op­por­tu­ni­ty to test them­selves against op­po­si­tion from dif­fer­ent re­gions of the world.

​The his­toric com­pe­ti­tion forms part of FI­FA’s ex­pand­ed com­mit­ment to youth foot­ball de­vel­op­ment and, for its in­au­gur­al edi­tion, will be open to boys’ teams from FI­FA Mem­ber As­so­ci­a­tions around the world. FI­FA has con­firmed that the event will be staged in a cen­tralised lo­ca­tion in Azer­bai­jan and de­signed specif­i­cal­ly around the de­vel­op­men­tal needs of U-15 play­ers.

​Match­es will fea­ture an adapt­ed for­mat, with short­er play­ing times, small­er pitch­es, and teams com­pris­ing be­tween sev­en and nine play­ers per side. FI­FA has de­scribed the ini­tia­tive as an op­por­tu­ni­ty to give young play­ers greater ac­cess to in­ter­na­tion­al foot­ball while cre­at­ing de­vel­op­men­tal ex­pe­ri­ences across cul­tures and con­fed­er­a­tions.

​The T&T U-15 squad is cur­rent­ly train­ing un­der head coach Ran­dolph Boyce as prepa­ra­tions con­tin­ue ahead of the tour­na­ment.

T&T Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion (TTFA) pres­i­dent Kieron Ed­wards wel­comed the draw and said the com­pe­ti­tion rep­re­sents an im­por­tant op­por­tu­ni­ty with­in the As­so­ci­a­tion’s wider youth de­vel­op­ment pro­gramme.

“This is an ex­cit­ing op­por­tu­ni­ty for our young play­ers to rep­re­sent Trinidad and To­ba­go on the world stage at an im­por­tant stage of their de­vel­op­ment. They will be ex­posed to dif­fer­ent foot­ball cul­tures, dif­fer­ent styles of play and an in­ter­na­tion­al tour­na­ment en­vi­ron­ment, and those ex­pe­ri­ences can be ex­treme­ly valu­able as they con­tin­ue along the path­way.”

“The play­ers and tech­ni­cal staff are al­ready work­ing in prepa­ra­tion for the tour­na­ment, and as an As­so­ci­a­tion we are pleased that an­oth­er group of young Trinidad and To­ba­go foot­ballers will have the op­por­tu­ni­ty to com­pete and de­vel­op at this lev­el.”

The FI­FA Coun­cil ap­proved the in­tro­duc­tion of the U-15 fes­ti­val-style com­pe­ti­tion in De­cem­ber 2025, with the first edi­tion fea­tur­ing boys’ teams in 2026. The 2027 edi­tion will fea­ture girls’ teams, while from 2028 FI­FA in­tends to in­vite Mem­ber As­so­ci­a­tions to par­tic­i­pate with both boys’ and girls’ U-15 teams in sep­a­rate com­pe­ti­tions.
