Debutants, The Untouchables, are making their presence felt in the National Pool League’s Premier Division.
On Wednesday, the Sangre Grande-based Untouchables travelled to Cunupia to take on the Roxbury Hustlerz and came away with an important 3-2 win. In the first of two hill/hill games on the night, Ronald Mohammed fought hard against Desmond Nicholls but just could not get the visitors off to a winning start, losing the opening encounter 3-4.
The Untouchables captain, Anderson Williams, tied things up for his team, winning four unanswered frames against his opposite number, Raj Persad. Kevin Gyan and Chris Badaloo teamed up in the doubles against Shaheed Kondiah and Tren Quash and it was another exciting encounter with Gyan and Badaloo eking out a 4-3 win to give the away team a two-one match lead.
Brian Bisnath kept the hosts in the contest, easing to a 4-1 win against Jarod Baptiste. However, Ashmeer Ali, whose calm demeanour has earned him the nickname “Iceman,” sealed the win with a 4-2 victory over Akash Poon, the last of which was a table run. The win sees the Untouchables move up one spot to fourth with three wins and two losses, while the Hustlerz drop one spot to seventh with two wins from five matches.
United Stars continue to lead the standings with five wins from as many matches. Their latest win was a 4-1 defeat of Sikarioz BC at Billiards Place in Aranguez. Aaron Raghoonanan, the United Stars captain, kept his unbeaten run going, winning all five of his games thus far. Sham Jagerssar was the only casualty on the night, losing a close 3-4 game against Sikarioz captain, Adrian Logie. Keshawn Rodney and Ravy Joseph won the doubles, Reynold Samaroo sealed the win in the fourth game and Adrian Bajnath put the icing on the cake in the final game. The loss pushes the Sikarioz BC down to tenth on the thirteen-team table.
Mercenaries are also unbeaten in the division with four wins out of four matches. Playing away from home, the Mercenaries defeated the Central Premier Pool Club 4-1 at the Roxbury Sports Bar in Cunupia, to remain in second spot. With the loss, Central PPC fall one spot to the ninth spot.
Rivalz are third on the standings after defeating Central Stars 4-1 at Billiards Place. The loss sees the Central Stars drop two spots to sixth. Shooting Stars are fifth on the table with three wins out of five. In week 5, they defeated Orinoco A 4-1 at Reno’s Sports Bar in Sangre Grande.
Another relatively new team, the UD Assassins, are in the upper half of the table in sixth after travelling from their base in St. James to Lucky’s in Williamsville to take on the Princes Town Underdawgs. The visiting Assassins did well to come away with a tight 3-2 win.
Orinoco A, Princes Town Underdawgs and Scotchie’s Spartans complete the table in positions 11-13, respectively.
The Scotchie’s Spartans A team were on a round 5 bye.
