The Trinidad and Tobago under-19 cricketers could not escape defeat to the USA-1 team like they did against the USA-2 six days ago in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 50-over Championships at St Mary’s Park, St Kitts, Wednesday.
Both Riyaad Mohammed and Brendan Boodoo scored fifties, but their efforts could not avoid a 93-run defeat to the North Americans at Cayon.
The Americans were sent to bat first and got an opening stand of 109 runs from 23.5 overs between Amrinder Gill and Sahil Garg.
Gill got to 51 from 72 balls with five fours before he was first out, caught by captain Christian Rampersad off the bowling of leg spinner Brendan Boodoo.
Garg hit 12 fours in his 129-ball 111 and was involved in another 100-run partnership with Utkarsh Srivastava (52) as they took the score to 219 before Srivastava was caught and bowled by the Trinidad and Tobago captain, Abdul-Raheem Toppin.
Garg was finally dismissed in the next over, as he was the first of Alexander Chase’s four wickets.
The left-arm seamer added the wickets of Saharsh Shwethan (2), Nitish Sudini (17) and Sabrish Prasad (0) as the Americans closed on 300 for eight from their 50 overs.
The national junior cricketers got a poor start and lost Luke Ali (8) and Fareez Ali (0) with only 16 runs on the board.
They then got a 112-run partnership between Riyaad Mohammed and Brendan Boodoo that put the innings back on track.
Mohammed hit four fours in his 83-ball knock, while Boodoo hit seven fours in his 76-ball knock. But their wickets at 128 for three (Mohammed) and 132 for four (Boodoo), no batsman stood up to see the innings through.
Only Christian Lall got past 20, but he only made 29 as the USA-One players continued to chip away at the Trinidad and Tobago innings.
Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 cricketers were bowled out for 207 in 42.1 overs to lose by 93 runs.
Meanwhile, Barbados continued their dominant run by thumping the Leeward Islands by eight wickets in a lopsided contest at Basseterre, St Kitts.
The defending champs notched their third straight win in the competition to install themselves as firm favourites to do the double.
Jamaica also claimed victory over Guyana, while the match between Leeward Islands and USA-2 ended in a no-result.
