Two teams with different statuses in the Championship Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League–the University of T&T (UTT) and the Reboot Tigers–squared off in an expected "David vs Goliath" clash. However, the final result told a closer story.
UTT, seasoned campaigners and last year’s division runners-up, wAS expected to secure an easy victory against the relative newcomers. Instead, the UTT women narrowly escaped with a two-goal triumph, winning 33-31 as action resumed after the Carnival break at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua on Thursday evening.
Goal-shooter Samantha Greene with 19 goals from 30 tries, and goal-attack Erica Job (12/20) for the Reboot Tigers were slightly more prolific at the circle, but it earned them just the lead in the first and third quarters, 6-4 and 23-19, respectively. The UTT women used more firepower in their attack, with the quartet of Adrianna Moreno, Tenecia Goodridge, Jillisa Briggs, and Onika Thomas combining to capture the win.
Moreno posted a record of six from 16, and Briggs 16 from 27, while Thomas, who played the role of goal attack, drained 11 from 17 attempts in a game that fluctuated for the most part before it ended in their favour.
In the evening's other match, Bermudez, third-place finishers in 2025, proved they are still a force to be misinterpreted even without reigning "Most Valuable Player" (MVP) Nekeisha Gomes. They delivered a convincing 44–24 victory over the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC).
In stark contrast to the UTT/Reboot Tigers thriller, the Bermudez women dominated the proceedings. Riding on the backs of near-perfect 30 from 40 tries from Jocelyn Marcelle, six from eight from Zakiya McKenna-Ellias, and eight from 18 from Crystal Jones, Bermudez dominance showed clearly as 9-5 in quarter one, 21-9 in the second, and 31-17 in the third session.
USC’s resistance was led by Gellana Grant (10/26), Kimola McMillan (10/19), and Angelina McKenzie (4/6). The action continues today.
