Veteran Azikwe Keller, a former national sprint champion, returned to the race tracks at the National Cycling Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva on Sunday to earn the title of national champion in the 1 Kilometre Time Trial event.
On the final day of the championship which had to be hastened due to the outbreak of the COVID19 (coronavirus), Keller who represented his club Raiders outlasted his opponents in the large field to win in time of one hour, 11.141 for the gold medal. His closest challenger Vidal Ramlagan did not disappoint, as he crossed the finish line in a time of 1:23.35 for the runner-up position.
Meanwhile, Tariq Woods took the Junior Time Trial title for his team Evolution Academy in 1:10.314, while the pair of Ryan D’Abreau and Kyle Caraby completed a two-three for the other two spots for Team Wheelers in 1:17.668 and 1:18.523 respectively.
Among the Women, Sylese Christian ran off with the 500 metres Time Trial event in a quick time of 39.046 while Makayla Hernandez of Madonna Wheelers secured the runner up prize in 39.70.
Meanwhile Gregory Dandrade was elected the new Vice President of Racing at the T&T Cycling Federation. At an Emergency General Meeting on Saturday, Dandrade was unopposed for the vacant position which was left so with the elevation Joseph Roberts to the position of president.
