Tenique Vincent of Concorde Athletic Club and Kymani Felix of D’Abadie Progressive topped their respective Girls and Boys Under-15 Heptathlon Trials when the two-day trials for the North American Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under 13-15 Age Group hosted by the National Association of Athletic Administration (NAAA) ended on Sunday in Tobago.
Vincent tallied 3,848 points to finish ahead of IG Fastlane Athletics’ Jenna-Marie Thomas (3,708) as both athletes to the two qualification spots available to the national team.
Third-placed finisher Mercury Athletic’s Kaori Robley (3,701) was also in the battle for the top two places that came down to the final event, the 1,000 metres run.
Vincent won her age-group high jump, was third in the long jump, fifth in the 80 metres sprint, second in the shot put (3kg), second in the 60m hurdles, third in the ball throw and fifth in the 1,000 metres.
Felix who topped his age-group shot put for his lone victory in seven disciplines also had a second-place finish in the long jump, and third in the 80m hurdles.
He added two fourth-placed finishes in the 80m sprint and high jump, sixth in the 1,200m and ninth in the ball throw to finish ahead of his clubmate Jeremiah Francis who amassed 4,140 points.
The trio of Tyrique Vincent (Concorde) – 4066, Zack La Rosa (Mason Hall) – 4,007 and Mahkaya Mahon (Oasics) – 3,996 completed the top five.
In the Girls Under-13 Pentathlon, Mason Hall Police Youth Club’s Tehillah Francois was the most consistent athlete throughout her five events to amass an unbeatable 2,583 points, well clear of Cupid sisters, Makayla (2,304) and Maliyah (2,257) both of Zenith.
Francois won the 60 metres sprint, throw ball and 800m while she was second in the high jump and joint third in the long jump with Zenith’s Toniyah Boucher.
The pair of Boucher and Denesia Fletcher, both of Zenith as well ended fourth and fifth respectively with 2,231 and 2,061 points.
In the Boys Under-13, Michal Paul of Concorde took the top spot with 2,861 points, 70 points more than Zenith’s Malique Young (2,791) while Tylon Whight of Mercury (2,732), RSS Phoenix’s Donnell Stewart (2,585) and RSS Phoenix’s Niyelle Alleyne (2.445) completed the top-five in a hotly contested series of events.
Paul’s tally was based around his wins in the high jump and long jump and a second-place finish in the 60m while he ended fifth in the 1,000 metres and sixth in the ball throw. The NACAC Age-Group Championships in carded for next month, in Nicaragua.
