T&T’s senior men’s team will face Guyana in two international friendly matches on Monday (May 13) and next Wednesday (May 15) at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Both games will start at 7 pm.

Both countries will use the matches as part of preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June, and the Concacaf Nations League which begins in September. Guyana, like T&T, is in League A and was drawn with Costa Rica, Guatemala, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Suriname.

T&T last met Guyana in a friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on March 22, 2022, a game that ended in a 1-1 tie at the Courts Caribbean Classic.

National coach Angus Eve said, “We see these games as very important in the wheel of our preparations going into the World Cup campaign for 2026. It is an ongoing programme that we started since I came on board, where we get some international games to get the locally-based players up to speed and see how they perform against international opposition.”

According to Eve, “Guyana is also in the League A of the Nations League, so they’re not slouches we will be playing. It gives the local players a final opportunity to be seen outside of their league so that we can pick the final squad. That is what these exercises are about.”

His opposite number Jamal Shabaaz told the media, “These two matches are great opportunities to look at our home-based players fresh out of playing in the KFC Elite League. T&T are formidable opponents and will provide a stern test for the home-based players vying for a spot in the final squad for our FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.

“The matches are a huge investment by both the GFF and TTFA because they help to expose the home-based talent and widen the international team pool. Of course, whether it is football, cricket, hockey, or rugby, when Guyana plays T&T we want to win, so it’s also going to be a title fight.”

Tickets for the matches will be on sale at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on match days at $75 covered and $50 for the uncovered stands.
