Akeela Williams con­nect­ed on 11 goals from 17 at­tempts to help Barataria Po­lice Youth Club (PYC) claim the Ki­wi Di­vi­sion ti­tle in the Lystar Lewis Port-of-Spain Net­ball League (LL­POSNL) on Sat­ur­day.

​The goal-shoot­er led Barataria PYC to a 14-7 win over Phoenix Phury in the fi­nal–the sec­ond match in a full sched­ule of games for the 87th edi­tion of the LL­POSNL at the Wood­brook Youth Fa­cil­i­ty.

​Ear­li­er, Spar­toms edged Car­di­nals 12-10 to take third place in the di­vi­sion, thanks to the shoot­ing ef­forts of goal-shoot­er Renisia Worme (7/12) and goal-at­tack Shami­ah Dun­can (5/5).

​In the fi­nale, Williams com­bined with goal-at­tack Dare­cia Stay, who net­ted three from five tries, to put Barataria PYC nar­row­ly ahead at the end of the first quar­ter, 3-2. Phoenix Phury, with Cam­ryn Hospedales (4/7) and Mikay­la Xavier (3/4) op­er­at­ing in the shoot­ing cir­cle, al­most matched their op­po­nents goal-for-goal but trailed by two (7-5) at half­time.

​The in­tense bat­tle con­tin­ued in­to the third quar­ter, but the Barataria-based team man­aged to stretch their lead to 12-7 head­ing in­to the fourth pe­ri­od. Phoenix al­so used Jael Thomas (0/0) and Abi­gail Rogers (0/0) in the cirlce but nei­ther shoot­ers had any at­tempts. The low-scor­ing fi­nal quar­ter saw on­ly two goals scored on be­half of the even­tu­al win­ners to se­cure the sev­en-goal vic­to­ry and the ti­tle.

​To­day, Barataria PYC will have a chance to claim the B Di­vi­sion crown when they face off against Uni­ty. Last week­end, Barataria PYC booked their spot in the ti­tle match af­ter down­ing Tran­scend Unit­ed 12-8 in the semi­fi­nals. In the oth­er semi­fi­nal clash, Uni­ty edged East­ern Quar­ry Thrillers 11-10.
