T&T defender Jesse Williams has signed a two-year deal with USA's Chattanooga Football Club (CFC), pending federation and league approval.
The 22-year-old recently appeared for this country in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals against the USA.
He made his international debut on June 8, 2021, in a 2-0 win over St Kitts and Nevis and then started for T&T in a goalless draw against Mexico in the group stage of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.
A versatile defender who can also play in defensive midfield, Williams most recently played his club football for Central Valley Fuego in the United Soccer League League One and also previously played with Pittsburgh Riverhounds, making seven appearances in the USL Championship.
His signing is the first new player signing of the MLS NEXT Pro era for Chattanooga Football Club.
“We watched Jesse and immediately noticed he could cover multiple positions, fitting into our fluidity of play, and also adding athleticism, defensive ability and willingness to join the attack,” said Chattanooga Football Club head coach and sporting director Rod Underwood.
Williams also expressed his excitement about joining the club for its first-ever season in MLS NEXT Pro.
He added, “I would also like to extend my thanks to the coaches for seeing my potential and granting me a chance to add value to this team. There are not many words that I can use to depict the way that I feel about this opportunity, but I do know that I’m going to make the absolute best of it and help the team to continue to create history.
Williams is familiar with the 15-year history of the club and the support from fans.
“Honestly I feel really grateful and excited to be able to build relationships with the fans because the fans play a huge role in supporting and building confidence,” added Williams. “Developing those relationships are very important for the betterment of the team so that we can all grow together.”
