A nine-member squad from T&T will join with 1500 youth athletes from around the world as the sixth IAAF World Youth Championships get underway Bressanone, Italy today. The team which is dominated by sprinters will be lead by Gabriela Cumberbatch, the Under-18 double sprint champion at last month's National Championships.
Air Bon Sonics sprinter Kai Selvon, 17, who placed a close second to Cumberbatch in the final clocking 11.88 is also on the team. The top three finishers in the Boy's Under-18, 100m final Moriba Morain (Simplex), Jamol James (Memphis) and Johnathan Holder will also compete, along with Boy's Under 18 400m champion Deon Lendore and the runner up in the event Brandon Benjamin.
Triple jumper Elton Walcott and Javelin Thrower Keshorn Walcott will also be in competition over the next few days. Yesterday the T&T team took part in the IAAF World Youth Masterclass in S�dtirol, Italy which included motivational speeches from six IAAF Ambassadors, an Anti Doping Workshop and warm up sessions with some of the sport's all-time greatest athletes.
