Daren Ganga, captain of the T&T senior cricket team bound for India to play in the Champions League cricket series, says that his team is ready to compete. Ganga, was speaking at a farewell function for his team organised by bmobile at the Hilton Trinidad yesterday. All members of the team were given mobile telephone handsets from bmobile. The phones are equipped with roaming capabilities and the players have been given free airtime to stay in touch with their family and friends, while on tour.
TSTT's head of marketing William Powell said the cricketers had the talent to do well but they needed to be supported in their effort to make their country proud. He said bmobile was doing its part to make the cricketers comfortable and he hoped the company's gesture helped in some way. Ganga said the tournament will be the rebirth of the national team. "This Twenty20 tournament would prove to be the rebirth of the national team. The rebirth of dedication to excellence.
Whether we win or lose, what we are about is giving of our best and I would like to ensure the country that we will go to this tournament and play as winners," he said. Manager of the team Colin Borde said the team had been prepared as best as possible and it was now time to execute. CEO of the TTCB, Forbes Persaud made a call on Government to come on board. "We have not received any assistance from Government in this venture and we are hoping that they still come onboard to assist." The TTCB will host a farewell dinner for the team at the Crowne Plaza tonight at 7.30.
