A 32-year-old labour­er was shot dead out­side a bar in La Ro­maine on Sat­ur­day night af­ter two armed men opened fire on him.

Dead is Kyle Davis, 32, of Maude Street, La Ro­maine. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, of­fi­cers at­tached to the La Ro­maine Po­lice Post were on mo­bile pa­trol around 10.05 pm when they re­ceived an anony­mous re­port that a shoot­ing had oc­curred near Part­ner’s Bar at the cor­ner of Church Street and the South­ern Main Road.

When of­fi­cers ar­rived, they spoke with sev­er­al peo­ple who re­quest­ed anonymi­ty. Po­lice were told that around 10 pm, Davis had been sit­ting on a bench in front of the bar with an­oth­er man when they were ap­proached by two men dressed in dark cloth­ing and armed with guns.

The sus­pects al­leged­ly point­ed their guns at the pair and fired sev­er­al shots.

Po­lice said Davis was struck in the chest and col­lapsed, while the oth­er man es­caped by run­ning from the scene. The gun­men then fled on foot along Church Street.

Davis was tak­en by an un­known per­son in an uniden­ti­fied ve­hi­cle to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he died while re­ceiv­ing treat­ment. A doc­tor pro­nounced him dead at 10.29 pm.

Of­fi­cers pro­cess­ing the scene found sev­er­al spent shell cas­ings and what ap­peared to be blood on the com­pound of the bar and on the road­way.

Crime Scene In­ves­ti­ga­tors lat­er re­cov­ered 11 spent 9mm shell cas­ings bear­ing var­i­ous mark­ings, two slip­pers and a blue hood­ie, which were seized as ev­i­dence.

The body was re­moved to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal mor­tu­ary and is ex­pect­ed to un­der­go a post-mortem ex­am­i­na­tion at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors al­so iden­ti­fied sev­er­al CCTV cam­eras in the area and are re­view­ing footage as en­quiries con­tin­ue. Po­lice have not es­tab­lished a mo­tive for the killing, and no ar­rests had been made up to yes­ter­day.
