A 32-year-old labourer was shot dead outside a bar in La Romaine on Saturday night after two armed men opened fire on him.
Dead is Kyle Davis, 32, of Maude Street, La Romaine. According to police reports, officers attached to the La Romaine Police Post were on mobile patrol around 10.05 pm when they received an anonymous report that a shooting had occurred near Partner’s Bar at the corner of Church Street and the Southern Main Road.
When officers arrived, they spoke with several people who requested anonymity. Police were told that around 10 pm, Davis had been sitting on a bench in front of the bar with another man when they were approached by two men dressed in dark clothing and armed with guns.
The suspects allegedly pointed their guns at the pair and fired several shots.
Police said Davis was struck in the chest and collapsed, while the other man escaped by running from the scene. The gunmen then fled on foot along Church Street.
Davis was taken by an unknown person in an unidentified vehicle to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. A doctor pronounced him dead at 10.29 pm.
Officers processing the scene found several spent shell casings and what appeared to be blood on the compound of the bar and on the roadway.
Crime Scene Investigators later recovered 11 spent 9mm shell casings bearing various markings, two slippers and a blue hoodie, which were seized as evidence.
The body was removed to the San Fernando General Hospital mortuary and is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
Investigators also identified several CCTV cameras in the area and are reviewing footage as enquiries continue. Police have not established a motive for the killing, and no arrests had been made up to yesterday.
