?A fourth man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Sangre Grande schoolteacher Bhasmat Seemungal-Akaloo. The 18-year-old suspect was held at Dan Kelly Village, Laventille, on Saturday afternoon by a party of police officers led by acting ASP Sahadeo Singh and Sgt Beverly Paul. The suspect, of Eastern Quarry, Laventille, is reportedly a URP worker.
Officers probing the case are expected to consult with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions later today before charges of murder are laid against the suspect. Investigators said they were searching for one more suspect in connection with Seemungal-Akaloo's killing. Three men, including the victim's husband, PC Sunil Akaloo, are already before the court, charged with the capital offence. The other accused are Derwin David Parris, a URP foreman of Eastern Quarry, Laventille, and spiritual healer Marlon Lee, of Gonzales, Belmont. The accused are expected to reappear before Senior Magistrate Ejenny Espinet in the Sangre Grande Magistrates' Court on Friday. Seemungal-Akaloo was kidnapped from her Cunaripo home around 3 am on September 14 by four armed men. Her body was found hours later, not too far from where she lived. Her body bore chop and stab wounds. (AS)
