Rainbow Sports and Culturual Club will host its annual 7s rugby tournament on Sunday on the Marabella Recreation Grounds, from 10 am. The Marabella-Train Line-Community Organisation will be using the occasion to celebrate another successful rugby season for the club. Rainbow is the defending tournament champion and will be at full strength with all its national players available. With all the local rugby clubs fixtured to participate, an exciting day of 7s rugby is expected.
Club president Rudolph Jack said the aim of the 7s is to raise the positive profile of rugby in the Marabella Community. "The youths get an opportunity to see the best players in the country. It is a family day. We provide entertainment, activities for all ages and the sale of tasty food. It is a chance for South Trinidad, and Marabella, to interact positively with the sport of rugby."
Jack, however, is still looking for sponsorship for his club's 7s, but is optimistic that a benefactor will be found. "We lost our major sponsor two years ago. But I am not worried. Twenty five years. That is how long we have struggled to lead the Train Line youths down the right road. "It is not easy. I know that the economy is not too good. Now more than ever Rainbow must remain loyal to the cause. I don't even want to think about failure. The 7s is an important event for the club and community. Help will come," said Jack.
