Some two weeks after being struck in the right arm by a bullet, four-year-old Zara Sylvester is unable to fully extend her limb. The baby's aunt, Pamela Roberts-Glasgow, said yesterday that Zara was still in pain and remained warded at Port-of-Spain General Hospital. "We are not sure if the bullet may have damaged the bone...we have to wait and see," she said.
"But Zara cannot bend her arm and everytime you touch it, she cries out in pain." Zara and her aunt 23-year-old Jehial Roberts were two survivors of a gun attack on their family home on February 22.
Up to late yesterday both were in stable condition. Carmen McHutchinson, 68, and her step-grandchildren, Asha, 24, LL, 13, and Javon Roberts,18, were shot dead during the attack. According to Roberts-Glasgow, Jehiel's was "coming along" but she was yet to be given the green light to be released. The probe into the murders have taken a new twist as police said they were vigorously pursuing forensic evidence as one avenue. Three suspects, initially held in connection with the killings, were taken into the custody of the Special Anti-Crime Unit of T&T (Sautt), but have been released.
Police, however, said despite the release of the suspects, they were pursuing other lines of investigations which may soon lead to a breakthrough in the case. Despite the release of the suspects, Roberts-Glasgow expressed confidence in the police, saying the perpetrators would be brought to justice. "We are very confident in the police and we know they are working to bring the killers to justice. "We know it's only a matter of time because we are very hopeful," Roberts-Glasgow said.
