Screams, hugs and countless kisses greeted the newly crowned Miss Jaycees Carnival Queen 2010, Cherrese De Abreau, as she made a surprise visit to the students at the National Centre for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), San Fernando, on March 12.
It was a rather emotional visit as De Abreau made her way into several classrooms, surprising the students with her regal yet humble presence.
Both teachers and students were so excited to see her that they all rushed to embrace her. De Abreau spent sometime talking to the students about school and they all said they were exceedingly happy she won the pageant. According to Keisha Sirjue Singh, West Indies vice-president of the Junior Chamber International T&T, "Miss Jaycees Carnival Queen helps to raise awareness for the centre."

Singh said the centre prepares students for the world-of-work by equipping them with skills that would allow them to fend for themselves in society. Courses at the centre include: hairdressing, welding, woodwork, printing, bookbinding, agricultural science, garment construction and office administration. De Abreau will continue to participate in fund-raising efforts throughout her reign. Part of the proceeds will go to the National Centre for Persons with Disabilities.
