Four different players were on target as Caledonia AIA kicked off its 2010/2011 Digicel T&T Pro League season with a 4-2 whipping of St Ann's Rangers in the feature match of a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Saturday night. Earlier, Defence Force got a brace from Devon Jorsling and one from strike partner, Kevon Carter in a 3-0 shut-out of Police. Rangers started well against Caledonia and after forcing Jamaican goalkeeper Kevin Graham into two saves to deny Josimar Belgrave as early as the third minute and Odelle Armstrong in the 24th, they deservedly took the lead in the 29th minute. A former Caledonia and Defence Force striker, Armstrong was on spot to head past goalkeeper Graham after team-mate, Beville Joseph headed a corner back into his path.
Caledonia drew level within seven minutes when Guyanese midfielder Shawn Beveney completed a solo run down the left flank with a low left footer that whistled past Rangers' custodian Daurance Williams on his near post. Three minutes later, Caledonia went 2-1 ahead when Daniel Cyrus met Sherron Joseph's cross from the right with a half volley which gave Williams no chance. On the resumption, Caledonia almost went further ahead when Cyrus hit the crossbar from outside the area. But on the hour mark, Caledonia did add to its tally through the tricky Sherron Joseph who fooled the entire Rangers defence, sending them one direction with a right foot fake, before rolling the ball over to his stronger left foot and blasting his effort past Williams for a 3-1 cushion.
New signing Hayden Vincent, who came on as replacement for Ryan Stewart then put the result beyond doubt in the 72nd minute when he used his pace to get to a long pass by Densill Theobald before beating Williams. Eight minutes from full-time, Belgrave got a second goal for Rangers when his right footer went in off the underside of the crossbar. With the win, Caledonia joined W Connection, North East Stars and Defence Force at the top of the table with three points while defending champions, bmobile Joe Public and Ma Pau have a point each.
