Stand-in skipper Trent Noel fired in a second-half brace as defending champions, bmobile blanked FC South End 2-0 for a much needed victory in the Digicel Pro League at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella on Saturday night. After a 0-0 first 45 minutes, Noel opened the scoring in the 61st minute before he added another one minute from the end of regulation time to ease the pressure on under fire coach Derek King. The win was only the second of the season from seven league outings for the Eastern Lions, and comes after a 3-1 home defeat to leader Defence Force.
Despite the win, Joe Public is still fourth on the table with 10 points, one behind W Connection who blasted Police 4-0 in the second match at Marabella. For W Connection, Andrei Pacheco (18th), Hughton Hector (27th), Eder Gilmar Arias (60th) and Teba Mc Knight (90th) were all on target as they rebounded from a 2-1 loss to joint fourth placed club, DirecTV North East Stars. Over at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, host club Tobago United used second-half strikes from Raoul Chapman, Jamal Spencer and inform Kevon Woodley to blank St Ann's Rangers 3-0.
The victory was the second-in-a-row for Tobago, now seventh on the standings with seven points, one more than Rangers and South End. On Friday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, ten-men Defence Force edged Ma Pau 2-1 for its sixth straight win to start the season. The "Teteron Boys", enjoying their best start to a local season ever now have maximum 18 points, six clear of Ma Pau, who tasted its first loss in seven matches.
