T&T's Davis Cup tennis team bounced back from an opening 2-1 defeat to Barbados on Tuesday, beating the US Virgin Islands by the same margin on Wednesday in Group IV of the American Zone in Panama City, Panama. In the first game against USVI, Yohansey Williams fought to a tight 7-6(6), 7-6(4) loss to Brian Oldfield though Joseph Cadogan evened the score with a 7-6(6), 6-4 win over Kristepher Elien.
Liam Gomez and Dawoud Kabli then carried T&T home with a comfortable 6-4, 6-1 victory over Oldfield and Nicholas Bass. In their opening match up against the Bajans, Williams and Cadogan lost their singles matches to Anthony Marshall (6-2, 6-1) and Haydn Lewis (6-2, 6-1) respectively but Gomez and Kabli managed to pull one back by beating Ryan Mosely and Seannon Williams 6-3, 6-4. T&T were set to face Honduras in the third of their four Round Robin matches yesterday evening.
