Sev­en T&T ath­letes will be ac­tion to­day, the sec­ond day of the 13th World Ju­nior (Un­der 20) Track and Field Cham­pi­onships which be­gan in Monc­ton, Cana­da yes­ter­day. Aleena Brooks, the 2010 dou­ble CAC Ju­nior sil­ver medal­list (800m and 4x400m), will be the first to the track when she faces the starter in the heats of the women's 800m set to come off at 9.05 am (TT Time). The for­mer Diego Mar­tin Sec­ondary School stu­dent and Mem­phis Pi­o­neer run­ner, goes in­to the race with a per­son­al best of two min­utes 8.97 sec­onds. Brooks, who cur­rent­ly at­tends the Uni­ver­si­ty of Min­neso­ta in the USA, was al­so sec­ond in the 800 and 4x400m events at this year's Carif­ta Games in the Cay­man Is­lands.

Sparkle Mc Knight and Shaw­na Fer­min will do bat­tle in the pre­lim­i­nar­ies of the women's 400m from 10.35. Mc Knight (Neon Track­ers) is the 2010 Carif­ta sil­ver medal­list in the event. She has a per­son­al best of 53.96 sec­onds. The for­mer Cara­pichaima Se­nior stu­dent has come of age this year and has ran un­der the World Ju­nior qual­i­fy­ing stan­dards many times this sea­son. Fer­min is a US-based ath­lete is rep­re­sent­ing the coun­try for the first time. He fin­ished sec­ond at the NAAA/Sagi­cor Cham­pi­onships clock­ing 54.41.

In the men's 100m heats set for 11:25am Sabi­an Cox (Hum­ming Bird) and Sher­mun All­sop (Con­corde) will be TT's rep­re­sen­ta­tives. Cox goes in the race as the 12th fastest ju­nior of the year fol­low­ing his 10.35 clock­ing in fin­ish­ing sec­ond at the NAAA Cham­pi­onships on June 26. Al­so go­ing in­to ac­tion to­day is Ash­lee Smith. The D'Abadie Pro­gres­sive throw­er warmed up for the event by tak­ing gold in girls un­der 20 dis­cus event at CAC Ju­niors. De­on Lendore (Abi­lene Wild­cats) and Kishorn Demp­ster (Con­corde) will con­test the pre­lim­i­nar­ies of the men's 400m card­ed for 6:25pm. Lendore is the 2010 Carif­ta sil­ver medal­list and CAC Ju­nior bronze medal­list.
