Post-play­er Kevin Sargeant's 28 points not on­ly moved him to the top of the scor­ing list but earned his team, Petro Jazz, a com­fort­able vic­to­ry over Bronx. This was on Tues­day in the Men's Di­vi­sion of the South Zone Bas­ket­ball League at the South­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na in Pleas­antville, San Fer­nan­do.

He in­creased his to­tal to 91, av­er­ag­ing 18.25 points per game, to over­take pre­vi­ous leader Petro Vet­er­ans' Kern Dot­tin (89) by two points. Dot­tin though still has a bet­ter av­er­age of 22.25 from his four match­es played.

The win al­so en­sured that Jazz kept a clean slate, head­ing in­to its sixth match on Sat­ur­day against Pe­ga­sus Play­ers fol­low­ing the open­ing en­counter be­tween Roy­al Ex­tra Pan­ters and Bronx at 7.30 pm.

Jazz led from the jump, clos­ing the first quar­ter with a 21-19 ad­van­tage. The Petro men re­mained in con­trol in the sec­ond ses­sion push­ing the lead to nine (37-28) at the half.

By the third pe­ri­od, it was all but over as Bronx fell fur­ther away, 58-41 de­spite the of­fen­sive ef­fort of Shel­don Rus­sell. He went on to top­score for his team with 15 points but it was not enough to with­stand de­feat. The loss was the first for Bronx in three match­es, giv­ing it a to­tal of five points to hold third place in the sev­en-team ta­ble. Bronx will look to bounce back against a Pan­thers unit that has on­ly one win from its four match­es. Pan­thers are fifth in the stand­ings.
