Mario Davis scored nine of his 15 points in a key fourth quar­ter run that helped Strak­er Nets to reg­is­ter a come from be­hind 76-73 win over De­tour Shak At­tack in the fi­nal of the 2010 North Zone Bas­ket­ball League Knock-out Tour­na­ment. Strak­er Nets suc­cess was record­ed at the Jean Pierre Sports Com­plex, on Tues­day night. This marked Strak­er's first ti­tle for the sea­son and first at Zon­al lev­el for five years. Davis hit three bas­kets from down-town as Nets outscored Shak At­tack 24-12 in the fi­nal pe­ri­od, eras­ing a third quar­ter nine point lead (61-52). Nets held a slim 15-14 lead at the end of the first pe­ri­od. How­ev­er, the team from Dan Kel­ly in Laven­tille, led by Ter­rence Nedd who hit six three-point­ers in his match-high 22 points, bounced back in the sec­ond quar­ter outscor­ing Nets 33-22, to take a 10-point lead (47-37) head­ing in­to the half.

The third pe­ri­od was nar­row­ly won by Nets as they scored 15 to Shak At­tack's 14. It was then do or die for the nets in the fi­nal quar­ter, and they re­spond­ed well, hold­ing Shak At­tack to their low­est quar­ter­ly score of the match, to pull off the win. This is the sec­ond straight sea­son that has fall­en short in the fi­nals, af­ter go­ing down to the De­fence Force last sea­son. Christo­pher Lares led the win­ners with 20 points, while Kurt Chris­t­ian dropped 20 as well for Shak At­tack.

Vet­er­ans re­tain Di­vi­sion II crown

Mean­while Vet­er­ans led by for­ward Dave Mar­shall with a match-high 23 points, re­tained the Sec­ond Di­vi­sion knock-out ti­tle with a 66-63 win over HDC Mor­vant Cru­saders in the first match. Cru­saders en­joyed the bet­ter run for the first three quar­ters, hold­ing a 48-43 lead head­ing in­to the fi­nal pe­ri­od. How­ev­er, the Vet­er­ans turned the ta­ble and outscored their op­po­nents 23-13 in the last quar­ter to come away with the come from be­hind vic­to­ry.
