It was a glorious day for the pupils of the Arima Hindu School on Thursday. Bindra Maharaj of BK Hardware and the manager of Arima Hindu School, Raj Jadoo of Jadoo's Trading, Dial Prabhucharan, Trendy Kids and Who Cares Fashion all joined hands to give the children of the Temple Street school their first ever Christmas treat. The event was made even more memorable for the children as they got a surprise visit from Santa Claus who distributed gifts. The pupils were overwhelmed by the visit and chanted "Santa, Santa!" The famous Christmas character was mobbed during the entire visit.
Principal of the school, Ramanie Tota-Maharj said: "The visit from Santa Claus (played by Jadoo) will certainly put new life and energy in the lives of the students and motivate them to do better in their school work." The school, which has a population of 227 pupils, was established in 1952. MP for Arima Rodger Samuel recently visited the school where he offered inspirational words to help motivate the pupils and teachers. According to Maharaj, the business owners found great joy in the effort since for some of the children it would be the first and only gift they get for the Christmas season. The initiative to give, Maharaj said, was supported by the Secretary General and the executive of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha.
