T&T's Shantol Ince swam her way to a bronze medal in the women's 100m butterfly S8-S13 Multi Class S9 event on Friday's opening night of competition at the 2015 CanAm Para-Swimming Championships held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Ince, the lone T&T entrant at the weekend long event got to the wall in one minute, 21.61 seconds to trail 18-year-old Elizabeth Smith who won in 1:10.70 minutes and Katarina Roxon (1:17.45).
Earlier on in the morning heats, Ince was also the third fastest in 1:22.27 with Smith again the winner in 1:11.75, and 21-year-old Roxon, second in 1:19.59.
It was the second event for Ince on the opening day after she placed fifth in the 400m freestyle S6-S13 Multi Class S9 splash in five minutes, 27.19 seconds.
In the morning, Aspden topped the heats as well in 5:04.64 ahead of Grogan (5:13.68), Sims (5:22.18) and Roxon (5:24.88).
Ince also competed in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle events on Saturday and Sunday, respectively but did not medal.
In the 50m freestyle, Ince, who represented T&T at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, was eighth in the morning heats in 33.79 and returned in the afternoon session to clock a faster time of 33.08 but still eighth spot.
In the 100m freestyle, Ince clocked one minute, 12.22 seconds for sixth in the final after she was seventh in the heats in 1:12.29.
Overall, the event was dominated by USA which closed out the three days of competition with a total of 28 records: one world, 17 American and ten Pan American records at the event which served as an international qualifier for the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships and 2015 Parapan American Games this summer in Glasgow, Scotland and Toronto, respectively.
