Big hitting West Indies batsman Chris Gayle says he will meet with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) at the end of the current 2015 World Cup to assess his future in the sport.
Gayle, speaking in a specially arranged interview by Digicel, said: "I still have the passion for Test cricket. Lately my back injury has pushed me away from Test cricket and being able to go five days have been tough. I have not sorted my situation yet which is the back problem, so that's the issue."
Gayle missed the last Test series against South Africa in South Africa after initially been named in the squad but ended up touring for the T20 series in which he was named player of the series and the limited overs series.
The man who now holds the highest individual score in World Cup cricket–215 made against Zimbabwe a week ago added: "I have been playing cricket non-stop on the road and I haven't given the back much time to heal. People say do surgery but once you do surgery your career could be over and your back will never be the same as well. It's a lot to think about, after the World Cup we will see what happens, in terms of where Chris Gayle will head or what will happen or we can sit and discuss and work out how we go about playing for West Indies cricket as well."
He said he would rather have a dialogue with those in charge, as he is not ready to retire as yet.
He continued: "This is your bread and butter but it can drain you, it is tough. It is going to take a toll on your body so maybe the Board can talk to the players and get their feelings on getting a break."
