T&T Olympic Committee (TTOC) president Brian Lewis will deliver an address at the Regional Olympic Solidarity Forum on the election process for National Olympic Committes (NOCs) today and tomorrow in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The theme for this year's event is "Good Governance in the National Olympic Committees."
This year's forum will include a review of the work being done within the Olympic movement, in the area of governance, resulting from the basic principles of good governance document which was produced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2008.
It will also highlight best practices being developed by NOCs and the challenges they face as they seek to implement good governance measures.
Lewis' address will entail the procedure for elections, eligibility conditions and specific qualifications.
As a result of presentations and discussions, the forum aims to produce a set of concrete guidelines and practical tools aimed at providing generic assistance for NOCs.
These guidelines will assist NOCs in implementing the basic principles of good governance based on best practice and the view of the IOC/Olympic Movement.
The TTOC was invited to present by Jrme Poivey, Head of Institutional Relations and Governance NOC Relations Department.
Lewis will be accompanied by TTOC Secretary General Annette Knott and Lovie Santana, who has responsibility for TTOC governance meetings.
Delegates attending this event will come from the English, French and Dutch-speaking countries in the Americas, including Canada and the United States.
