Former national junior captain Kwesi Browne of Arima Wheelers excelled in gusty conditions to win the 200m flying category and record a personal best at the third Keep Fit contest hosted by the T&T Cycling Federation (T&TCF) Keep Fit contest, which was staged at the Arima Velodrome, on Sunday.
Browne (11.546 seconds) edged runner-up Azikiwe Kellar (11.558) of Testi Cicli, while the latter rider's brother Ako Kellar, also of Testi Cicli, finished third in 12.514 seconds.
Even in the testing settings, the result saw Browne improve considerably from his 12.2-seconds mark recorded a month ago.
The results put Browne and Kellar (Azikiwe) in prime position to finish below the qualifying standard of 11.350 seconds for the Pan American Cycling Championships, which will be held from February 5-10, in Mexico. The duo are set to challenge the Elite Pan American Cycling Championship trials, which takes place from Tuesday to Thursday, next week.
